Blogware v1.0 Release Today

Monday, May 10th, 2004

Today is the day! V1.0 will be released; this includes the LRU (Live Reseller Update) to the channel as well as a press release. The press release can be viewed here and the details regarding the launch once released  here.

This co-insides with an update from Google on their Blogger service which has sat relatively untouched from a public perspective since the acquisition by Google In Feb 03. What is the big update? Well, a fancier looking site, some new features where you can post via email (Blogware has had this for some time including posting via your cell phone) or post pictures directly from your desktop (Another feature already released via the browser tool and enhanced via our desktop app to be released soon). Oh, and they have this GREAT new feature where people can COMMENT on a blog entry ;) Hmmmm another “first”? No, we have had this for some time as well!

This was also pointed out to me by someone internal regarding the article and IMHO I found this to be a true reflection of the public image of their service for the last year:

“The focus is on lifting the barrier to start blogging,” said Evan Williams, co-founder of Blogger.

Should it not be lowering the barrier as the ultimate goal? We want everyone to be able to blog, no matter your Internet IQ, and although Blogware may be the closest thing in the market so far we still have some ways to go and are continually focusing on this ultimate goal.

This will be a VERY fun time in blogland, our resellers have the best service in the industry and they now have an officially supported architecture to go and sell. We are working on marketing support and hopefully we will all be in prime position to make a huge dent in this marketplace in the upcoming weeks / months.

Commercial Blogs

Thursday, May 6th, 2004

I had to share this White Paper! A quick 8 pager but an amazing set of examples of internal and external commerical applications of blogs with clearly measurable ROI. They even have a set of rules listed that any reseller can use with their commercial clients as a consultative tool to solution sell Blogware. Here is an excerpt:

“This white paper looks at the rise of the weblog phenomenon and examines its potential effect on business, and how businesses can harness this realignment of technology and communication. Weblogs will give rise to a new “generation” of authorities by making it easy to share meaningful information and content as needed, and at the fast-paced and often irregular speed of business.”

You will need a PDF reader, but you can read the full article here
